At www.mta.me, Conductor turns the New York subway system into an interactive string instrument. Using the MTA’s actual subway schedule, the piece begins in realtime by spawning trains which departed in the last minute, then continues accelerating through a 24 hour loop. The visuals are based on Massimo Vignelli’s 1972 diagram.

“I remember when I was in grade school, on the first day of classes I would scan through all of my brand new academic books in search of cool, colorful charts and graphs. I didnt realize it back then, but the “colorful pictures” that I found so entertaining were actually examples of a discipline called “infographics” or graphical representations of information. Information Graphics range from the very simple “Coke and Sugar Cube” example (below the Youtube video), to mind bendingly intricate designs that, once digested, are actually pretty easy to understand. Check out this video (Royksopp- “Remind Me” made with all infographics - Great song too) as well as some cool examples that I found across the web. Cheers!”
