Mark Twain famously wrote “If I had more time I would write a shorter letter” and I am in danger myself of over-thinking this modernist designer’s theories, but these lessons are indeed what Dieter Rams has spent the past 79 years striving to achieve and to pass on to would-be designers.

Mathias Klotz - The second project completed in his career; Casa Muller on Isla Grande de Chiloe in 1994. Compositionally, there’s a nice contrast between one side feeling massive and firmly rooted to the ground, while the other opens up and floats above the landscape. I love some of the small details; for example how the siding changes orientation from horizontal to vertical as you turn to the porch. The house has a clear nautical sensibility through its materiality and proportions, yet is careful to abstract the elements just enough where to where it doesn’t conform to the more traditional archetype of a beach home.

Kevin Saint Grey. These are the most “interesting” photos according to Flickr. His user name there is primer. He has a great eye for minimalist, abstract, and black and white photos. Many of these would make fantastic prints.
